About the project

The Objective: Explore how to fuse choreography with Virtual Reality in a compelling & creative way.

The Result: We developed an experience where dancers controlled the virtual environment based on their choreography.

We were approached by Dancetheatre David Earle to develop an immersive VR dance experience for their dancers. They wanted to explore how to fuse choreography with Virtual Reality in a compelling & creative way. After many hours of thorough brainstorming, we created an interactive experience where dancers would affect the environment with their dance moves.

For example, dancing faster would increase the speed of wind in the environment. We also allowed the dancers to see each other as abstract, light-form entities. We worked closely with the dancers throughout the development process, designing the VR portion closely to match their choreography.

The dancers ended up loving the result, and we will be working with them shortly to develop a bigger experience.

Technology Used: Unity, IKinema, HTC Vive, MSI Backpack PCs
